As we’re preparing for the coming Hifidelics record store we have been receiving a lot of record shipments from bands. They have arrived packaged in all different ways, which is fine as long as there is no damage during shipping. I think most of us have had at least one package over our lifetime that has arrived damaged to some degree. In order to keep any possible damage to an absolute minimum when shipping your records to us, or to your fans, I have reposted a simple photo tutorial on the best practices for shipping your vinyl records.
This was originally posted on the They Still Press Vinyl blog.
All you really need to safely pack a record is:
- LP or 7″ mailer (A bubble mailer of pizza box do not count!)
- Packing tape
- Bubble wrap (optional)
- Backing board
Following the simple steps illustrated below you can make the conscious effort to avoid any mishaps to the record you’re sending out. Granted, once it’s out of your hands and at the mercy of the postal system, then it’s a gamble. Not to mention the miserable summer heat that 99.9% of the time will cause records to warp if they’re left sitting on your doorstep long enough. Also, do not forget to either write or apply a “Fragile” sticker.
If you do not have LP/45 mailers & supplies, here a few places with decent prices:
Cutting Edge
Sleeve City
Bags Unlimited
And if you’re interested in Hifidelics carrying your record, please see our terms or shoot me a message. It will not cost you a thing!
